Popularly referred to as the "Pearl of the Orient", the state of Goa is located on the western coast of India in the coastal belt known as Konkan. Bounded by Maharashtra, Karnataka and the Arabian Sea Goa is well connected by air, rail and water. Known to be one of the richest states in the Indian subcontinent Goa is responsible for a major portion of India’s GDP.


Goa is popularly known as a tourist’s paradise in India because of its natural scenic beauty, attractive beaches famous temples, old Churches, feasts and festivals and above all hospitable people. Located on the western coast of India that was formally a Portuguese colony, Goa has a strong milieu of ethnic Indian, Konkani and Portuguese cultures. Goa is the land of the unexpected the modern life of Goa is a sharp contrast to beliefs and cultures of the people of the region.

A trip to Goa is incomplete without a visit to some of its most popular beaches. Goa is surrounded by the seas and the lush forested hills that only add to the charm of the state. Goa is a land of golden beaches tucked away between the hills of the Western Ghats and the Arabian Sea. Edged with long and sunny beaches, Goa is infested with groves of cashews, mango and coconut. Goa is divided into two districts - North Goa and South Goa. North Goa includes the capital city of Panjim, the former capital of Old Goa, Fort Aguada and Candolim, Chapora, Vagator, and the beaches Calangute, Anjuna, and Baga. South Goa includes Vasco da Gama, Bogmalo, Margao, Colva and Benolem. The beaches such as Dona Paula, Calangute, Anjuna, Colva, Miramar, and Vagator can be compared with the best beaches around the world.

Panaji (Panjim) and Central Goa

Panaji, the capital of Goa lies on the banks of the Mandovi estuary in North Goa. The city lies along the left bank of the Mandovi River. A small and charming town that offers a glimpse of Portuguese architecture because of its terraced hills, a jumble of concrete buildings with attached balconies and red-tiled roofs. Some of the most famous beaches in Goa lie in the city of Panaji, they include Miramar, Dona Paula and Vainguinim
