District Map of Goa


Goa is divided into two major districts: the North Goa district and the South Goa district. Each of the districts is headed by a deputy commissioner who takes care of the affairs of that particular district. Division of the state into district helps in the easy management of the affairs of the state. North District of Goa covers an area of 1736 Sq km while the area covered by South Goa district is 1966 sq km.

The district headquarter of North Goa is the city of Panaji and for South Goa it is Margao. The entire Goa state is divided into 11 sub districts. North Goa is divided in sub- districts like Pernum,Bicholim, Bardez, Satari, Tiswadi, Ponda. The sub-districts in South Goa are Mormugao, Salcete, Sanguem, Quepem and Canacona. The North District of Goa shares border with Maharashtra whereas the South district shares its border with Karnataka.

There is a separate district and session court in each of the districts of Goa. There are some very beautiful and refreshing beaches in both the districts of Goa. The popular beaches in the North Goa are Baga, Anjuna, Dona Paula, Candolim, Calangute (popularly known as the ‘Queen of beaches’), and Miramar among others. Bogmalo, Colva (the largest beach in Goa), Benaulim, Agonda, Palolem are some of the popular beaches of South Goa.
