About - South Goa
Goa was included as the 25th state of India on 30th May 1987. Goa is divided into two districts namely North Goa and South Goa. The headquarters of south Goa is situated at Margao. The southern district of Goa extends over 1966 sq kms. Well connected by air, sea and road South Goa houses the only airport in the region. It also shelters the Vasco D agama which is an important port in Goa because it links Goa to other important destinations by sea. Goa’s railway station Margao is also situated in South Goa.


Though not as famous as North Goa, South Goa has its share of beautiful beaches, hotel, wildlife, churches and temples.

South Goa – Climate
South Goa witnesses moderately hot climate because it lies within the two tropics. The monsoons in South Goa begin from June and end by September. There are heavy spells of showers during the monsoons and the atmosphere becomes extremely pleasant.

South Goa – Beaches
Colva Beach: Unique in its natural splendor the Colva beach is the most pristine beach in South Goa. The silvery sands of the Colva beach stretch over a distance of about 20kms. A picturesque sight the Colva is bordered with coconut and palm trees and spread on the shore are the lovely fishing boats. Known as the oldest and largest beach in Goa Colva is a famous resort for people who prefer to be away from the din. A safe place to swim the Colva in South Goa is dotted with colonial style of concrete hotels, souvenir stalls and little snack bars

Benaulim Beach: An epitome of rural beauty the Benaulim Beach in South Goa promises a serene and calm vacation to its visitors. Mostly visited by foreign tourists this beach is relatively quieter than the other beaches in the region. With shimmering sands and immaculate water this beach is littered with wooden boats that add to the beauty of the Benaulim. People enjoy boat rides on this beach as it is sparsely populated and hence the silence of the sea can be felt.

Palolem Beach: Stretched over 100 meters of golden sands this beach in South Goa is surrounded by hills on both sides. Infested with huts, rooms, restaurants and shacks this is one of the most popular beaches in South Goa. An idyllic tourist’s destination the Palolem is silvery white with little crabs crawling on the shinny sands.

South Goa – Sightseeing
A place with a strong religious background, Goa could be counted as one of the important pilgrimage centers of India. Goa houses a number of churches and temples that bear witness to the intense religious history of the people who lived here. Amongst the various places to visit the most important are Church of Our Lady of Rosary, The Rachol Seminary, Church of St. Francis of Assisi, The Se Cathedral and Basilica of Bom Jesus. The famous Hindu holy places in Goa include Sidhanath Mountain, Brahma Temple, Shri Datta Mandir, Devaki-Krishna Temple and Shri Chandreshwar Temple.
