Goa is often considered as a nest of singing birds and the credit for that goes to the melodious Goa Music. In other words, music is an essential part of the life of Goa and one can't be left untouched by it during Goa Trip. Goa music is greatly influenced by the western and Indian Classical music.
Some forms of songs and music of Goa: -
Suvari- the Folk Music:
With orchestral music and reliance upon 'Laya' (tune) and 'Taal' (beat), Suvari folk music is a major hit in Goa. This traditional folk music is considered as a tone setter to all Hindu religious and festival performances. Comprising of 'Ghumat', 'Shamel', 'Cymbals' and sometimes 'Shehnai' and 'Surt', the orchestra plays an important role in Suvari music, as the spoken words are very few.
Mando- the Latin Taste:
Representing beautifully the mingling of Indian and Western traditions, Mando is a treat to hear in Goa. Starting with a sad beat, gradually it ends on a faster beat known as 'Dulpods' or 'Durpodha'. Based on the Latin American tune, Mando is sung by girls and boys in chorus or sometimes one line of the song one after the other.
Mando- the love song:
Sung by Goan Catholics in group, Mando is a love song accompanied with a beautiful dance. Having a perfect combination of beats of Ghumat and romantic strains of violin, this love song covers the entire gamut of emotions in love.
Other Popular Music Forms:
'Banvad', 'Cantaram', 'Dasra Vadan', 'Gadya Ramayan', 'Gaun Kani', 'Gudulya Geetam', 'Jat', 'Pavada', 'Lavni', Bhajan-Dindi', 'Lagan Geet' and 'Carol Singing' are some of the other forms of Goa music that you hear in Goa.
