History of Sunburn Goa
The first sunburn festival was held in the state in the year 2007. The festival held at the shore of the Candolim Beach, had ten stalls in all along with a flea market. A total of 36 national and international artists adorned the event with their rocking performances. Carl Cox, Above and Beyond, John 00 Fleming, Axwell, Midival Punditz and DJ Pearl were among the performers whom the audiences, close to that of 10000 people, absolutely loved. The organizers, Nikhil Chinappa, a Popular Indian Video Jockey, and Percept had to rope in Smirnoff as the official sponsors to hold the event of such a great magnitude.
The event set a benchmark for the festival that was to continue for next three consecutive years and more. The organizers and supporters of the event refused to let the terror rule over the spirit of jaunty in the year 2008, when Mumbai was attacked by terrorists and entire country was mourning the losses, and made event a success with increased participation. The number of artists who participated this year surged to 45 and the audiences were almost double the previous year. The numbers remained on ever increasing high since then.
The sunburn in 2009 brought DJ Armin Van Buuren to India for the first time. Armin Van Buuren is the Popular Dutch DJ, voted number one DJ in the world in a poll by DJ Magazine. The sunburn event in 2010 made news for the sale of the pre-booking passes for the event within 22 minutes of the time they were available for sale.
